eBay, GM End Online Car Buying Trial

General Motors and eBay have halted their experiment of putting cars for sale on eBay, The Wall Street Journal reports. Unsurprisingly, selling cars on eBay does not contribute to higher profit margins, both companies found.
Really, this should come as no surprise. We’ve all seen what happens when you sell an item on eBay: naturally, buyers want to pay the lowest amount possible, and there’s always a jerk or two who throws in a fake bid to skew the results. This apparently was exactly what happened in the GM-eBay trial.
And again, while I lack an MBA, doesn’t placing a car up for auction minimize the profit margin? It might not if it’s the only market available. But eBay and GM were also competing against dealers, who might be willing to negotiate below the reserve price via a trade-in or other goodies. In retrospect, it seems like a bad idea all around.
Make EMC Retrospect Email on Events
Code September 15th, 2009 by Shai Perednik
EMC Retrospect 7.6 has a built email notification option. However, its premetive and doesn’t allow for custom messages, alternate ports, or TLS/SSL.
So after much digging and hacking I through together the script below which does the job. This is based on the example vbs script supplied by retrospect, so cudos to them for the initial work.
Download retroeventhandler.vbs
Also, note that you will need to change your settings according in the last part of the script.
